Jen and Michael Couple #6
I met my fiancé, Michael three years ago at the movies. My cousin ( and maid of honor) at the time was dating one of Mike's best friends. My cousin and I had plans to go to a movie and asked if her boyfriend and a couple of his friends could come along. Of course I didn't have a problem with it. Little did I know, my cousin was trying to set me up with one of Mike's friends and I was not open to the idea. She introduces me to the guys and informs me who she is trying to set me up with (great guy but we didn't hit it off). Then I go through the whole " I don't want to date anyone right now" speech with my cousin and her boyfriend who was also encouraging the relationship. Next thing I know I am eating my words because Mike walked in and I had to know his story. They said he was available but that they were trying to set him up with someone else. So there I was at the movies sitting between the guy everyone wanted to set me up with and the guy I wanted to be set up with. I got up during the movie about three times to text my cousin from the ladies room trying to get info about Mike. While I was doing that, Mike was doing the same thing. When I got up to go to the ladies room, he would also text my cousin to ask about me. The movie ends and I honestly couldn't tell you much about it because I was so distracted by the handsome man sitting next to me that I had to see again. We go our separate ways and as my cousin and I are driving home, she reads me all the messages that Mike sent her during the movie. I was so excited to hear we were both set up with the wrong people and wanted to get to know each other instead. Two days went by and my cousin called me to say come over Mike is on his way over so get ready and get here! I was so excited and nervous at the same time. I go to my cousins house and hung out with everyone to play some pool (but really to see Mike again.) About an hour into it Mike asked me if I wanted to go out and get a drink so we left and got a drink together and started talking and laughing and had a great time! A week later he took me out to dinner on "the hill" where I realized how easy it was to talk to him and how much he made me laugh. I knew I wanted to see him more. We hit it off right from the start and I fell for him hard and fast. After we had been together for an amazing year and a half, Mike was deployed to Afghanistan. It was the most difficult six and a half months of my life! He called everyday and we wrote to each other regularly. I even gave up my blackberry to buy an iPhone just so I could Skype with him and would never miss a call! I didn't part with my phone the entire deployment; I had it on me 24/7! I didn't care where I was, if he called, I answered! If I missed a call, forget it.... I was an emotional mess for the rest of the day! The time seemed to drag on. I felt like the deployment was never going to end. Every time I watched the news there seemed to be another attack or accident in Afghanistan. I would panic until I was able to talk to Mike again. I had to stop watching the news because it was literally making me sick. My friends and family were incredible during the whole deployment. They were so supportive and I know I wasn't easy to deal with because I was so emotional! Mike finally came home safe and sound and it just so happen to be on his 30th birthday. I had never experienced so many emotions all at once than I did that day! It was by far the happiest day of my life.... But I'm sure we have even better days ahead! Four months after Mike came home he proposed! The rest is history! We are planning our wedding and couldn't be happier! You know you've met the man of your dreams when your real life is better than the fairytales you dream about
